So my friends, how many of you, and be honest, say you love objects? I’m guilty! I walk around saying I love that shirt, I love that camera, that artwork or I loved that movie. haha It is very easy to say, but the word “love” is hardly appropriate for objects of this world. Besides God say’s not to love things of this world.
1Jn 2:15-2:17 Do not love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you do not love the Father.
Everything that belongs to the world---what the sinful self desires, what people see and want, and everything in this world that people are so proud of---none of this comes from the Father; it all comes from the world.
The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but those who do the will of God live forever. GNBT
This is a way to love with our worldly goods.
1Jn 3:17-23 But whoever has this world's goods and sees his brother having need, and shuts up his bowels from him, how does the love of God dwell in him?
My children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
And in this we shall know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him,
that if our heart accuses us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things.
Beloved, if our heart does not accuse us, we have confidence toward God.
And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
And this is His commandment, that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
We can use our worldly possessions to love, but we should not love the items themselves. Liking the things that we own however is not bad, as long as we do not put them above our neighbors and God.
